Hillcrest School

Location: Hillcrest School, Edmonton, AB

Year: 2018-2019

As part of an Artist in Residence project with Hillcrest School, this mural was co-designed with the students and staff, and spraypainted in the school gym. As always, one goal was to consider how the mural would look from several vantage points. For this piece, it was imagined what an opposing team would see first when coming into the gym, but also what a student at Hillcrest might pick up on only after practicing right up close to the mural for a semester full of gym classes. The artwork was designed to be impactful from a distance yet still full of hidden detail up close. I also worked with the school’s art classes to create mini-murals that appear in each of the four entrances and in several hallways in the school.
